TWM Short Shifter Kit
Application: MAZDASPEED 3

The MazdaSpeed 3 TWM Performance short shifter is designed to be a very simple direct bolt in installation with simple hand tools.  The MazdaSpeed 3 short shifter is a complete replacement for the stock shifter shaft and reverse lock. The TWM MazdaSpeed 3 short shifter reduces shift throw by 30% and shift knob height by 1.75" for optimal shift feel and performance. TWM's new MazdaSpeed 3 short shifter is fully CNC machined from billet steel and features stainless steel hardware and TIG welding for the ultimate in durability. The new MazdaSpeed 3 short shifter can also be used with the stock base bushings or the TWM aluminum shifter base bushings.

Awesome Upgrade August 4, 2009

I have this unit installed on my 09 Speed 3 and it makes a big difference.  Shifting is much smoother and along with the Street Unit or TWM shifter bushings it feels like a totally different car.  You can raise or lower the hight of the shifter using washers that you can buy at a hardware store for about 50 cents for 10 of them.  The only complaint I have with the unit is that when my car sits outside in hot weather for a few hours the shifter sticks when you push down into reverse.  You have to actually pull on the shifter knob to get it back up and that is a little annoying.  I contacted TWM and they offered to replace it for free but i told them no worries its not worth uninstalling, reinstalling stocker, and then reinstalling TWM again and its not too big of a deal to me.  Its good to know that they were willing to replace it though.

This shifter is not to difficult to install with 2 people. As per the description it will lower your gear shift height as well. Where this turns into a less than average upgrade is the difficulty to put the car into first gear. You have to go to 2nd first and that usually works, but I have been caught out when the light changes and its time to go by the shifter refusing to go into 1st and only going to 3rd similar to the stock shifter. The claimed 30% throw is also questionable. I can't recommend this product or maybe I got a bad one. I do like the aluminum spacers though.
