Racing Beat Power Pulse Muffler (1999-2005)
Applications Mazda Miata
Part Number 56461 (1999-05) Miata (Including Mazdaspeed version*) (1999-03) Miata equipped with Auto Transmission -see part number 56468.
The heart of our Power Pulse muffler is our 304 polished stainless steel canister. Our polished muffler canister is supplied with stainless steel inlet and outlet pipes for maximum durability. For maximum performance potential, this muffler features the same 2.375-inch Straight-Flow internal design configuration as our 1990-97 Miata Power Pulse and RX-7 Turbo II exhaust systems. Finished with a 3.5-inch polished 304 stainless steel tip, this large diameter muffler will handle applications from stock to race.
Designed entirely by Racing Beat, this muffler features stainless steel and ceramic sound-deadening insulation to provide the optimum exhaust note for your Miata. The Power Pulse Muffler for the Miata offers a deep, throaty exhaust note, without any harsh, buzzy or “droning” tones. All Racing Beat’s exhaust are “tuned” in-house by our engineering staff to produce a modest exhaust tone at low speeds, and a bit more “attitude” under full throttle acceleration.
On an otherwise stock ’99 Miata (baseline hp - 110.6) our dyno tests have shown a 2.4 hp gain (max hp - 113.0) with the addition of this muffler. For dyno chart comparisons, click here. Combine this muffler with a Racing Beat air intake for gains of up to 8.5 hp!
Don’t be suckered into wild performance claims made by other aftermarket suppliers. Big number HP gains from an aftermarket rear muffler simply don’t exist. If they did, why would Mazda leave this untapped horsepower behind???
Each muffler is supplied with a replacement OEM donut style gasket. Installation can be completed using basic hand tools. Simply unbolt the two retaining nuts, slip the original muffler off the rubber hanger grommets, and then reverse the process for installation of the new Power Pulse muffler! The muffler is emissions legal and meets all California sound level requirements.
Beginning with the 1999 Miata, Mazda incorporated both a catalytic converter and a pre-silencer into the factory connecting pipe. Replacing the stock exhaust with a large diameter, cat-back connecting pipe that will bolt-on is not possible without considerable custom fitting. Replacement of the factory catalytic converter with an aftermarket “hi-flow” converter/connecting pipe combination may not be legal in your state. If you are considering this option, consult your local authorities before proceeding.
*We offer a Power Pulse Muffler specifically for the 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata. Although this muffler is dimensionally identical to the non-turbo unit, the internal design has been changed to provide a slightly more aggressive exhaust tone.
