The Miata High Flow Air Inlet Assembly (larger photo) for the 1999-05 Miata combines the advantages of a low restriction, reusable K&N air filter with a smoother air passage into the factory air meter assembly to improve airflow. Designed and engineered by Racing Beat, this handsome assembly, with its polished aluminum casting, positions the genuine K&N air filter e element in the area behind the headlamp.

For models equipped with the factory shock tower brace, we offer the optional Shock Tower Brace Mounting Bracket for 1999-00 Miatas (shown on the Blue car above) or 2001-05 Miatas (shown on the Red car above).

With the second generation Miata, it is apparent that Mazda engineers put some effort into directing fresh air into the engine compartment. The engineers have tried to route air through the wheel well area and up through the sheet metal body panels. The stock air-box snorkel is positioned over an opening in the engine compartment body panel to take advantage of the improved airflow.

The High Flow Air Inlet Assembly replaces the stock air box and positions the air filter over this body panel opening. Not only does this unit look great, but the sound of the air rushing through the inlet tube gives the Miata a decidedly more aggressive sound!

Performance & Dyno Charts
Our dyno tests of this air intake assembly showed gains of an additional 6 HP gain over the stock intake. This intake increased horsepower from 110 to 116 on our dyno runs, with a slight improvement in mid-range torque. To view a graph of the dyno test results, click here.(PDF)

Emissions

Are you required to keep your car emissions legal? Is your car required to pass a tailpipe emissions test? The Racing Beat High Flow Intake Assembly has received an emissions exemption (E.O. D-450-6) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and is considered legal for street use.

This unit is very easy to install and is supplied with fully detailed installation instructions. (Allow approximately ½ hour for installation) Use of the K&N Filter Charger Kit as an inexpensive way to clean, protect and prolong the life of your air filter.

This intake is compatible with Miatas equipped with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). (The location of the ABS module required Mazda to relocate the windshield wiper fluid reservoir to the area behind the stock air intake box.)
