MazdaSPEED6 Down Pipe
Dyno - Torque                        Dyno - HorsePower

Dyno testing:  The test MAZDASPEED6 was completely stock, except the down pipe. Test vehicle used the CPE down pipe WITH a high flow catalytic converter.  We will also offer the down pipe without a catalytic converter for those who don’t have to worry about emission laws and want maximum power.

The stock two-piece downpipe on the Mazda SPEED6 is one of several parts that stifle the performance potential of the turbocharged and intercooled MZR engine.  It has crimps, bends, two catalytic converters, and a constrictive diameter.  These attributes were acceptable for Mazda, but not for MAZDASPEED enthusiasts.

The solution to the stock downpipe was as simple as it is elegant.  A single 304 stainless pipe, with a generous 3” diameter, a single high flow metallic cat, and two gentle mandrel bends to contour the Speed6’s underbelly.  The new downpipe represents an obvious improvement over the stock unit in both form and function.

Our downpipe can be had with or without catalytic converters, for use on-road or off-road, respectively.  The off-road downpipe features an oxygen sensor provision that suppresses the P0420 check engine code.  The on-road catted downpipe features a monolithic honeycomb catalyst designed for maximum flow and surface area.  With the CPE downpipe in place, one can expect better than 20 horsepower, and a marked increase in engine responsiveness.

The down pipe system is manufactured using polished 304 stainless steel. All tubing is made in the USA by the premier pipe manufacturer, RathGibson, and designed to last the life of the car.

downpipe install November 24, 2008
Reviewer: Dewey  Bryan from Germantown, TN United States
11 pages of instructions with 19 pictures.  A quality piece from CP-E.  See my review of the CP-E Mazdaspeed3 downpipe install for related tips.  Page 7:  middle picture.  The 4 bolt U-shaped brace in front of the catback needs to be removed to install the new downpipe.  Page 9:  get the jack under the engine FIRST, then remove the bolts from the pre-cat bracket, then loosen the lower motor mount bolts.  Page 10:  Once again, wrestling required to remove the cat but it will come out!  Page 11:  the lower rear bolt on the downpipe requires you to slide the pipe to the passenger's side to make room to get the threads started.  Once they start, then the pipe can be slid toward the driver's side and fully tightened down.
Great performance addition to the car.  More effortless power throughout the rpm band.   Makes the car even more fun to drive.
